THE DRIVER CHECKLIST
Get the details.
Then make your move.
A job title is only the beginning. Use these questions to compare the actual work with your experience, schedule and priorities.
01 / Understand the pay structure
- Is compensation hourly, mileage-based, percentage-based, or a combination? Which miles or hours are paid?
- Ask how detention, layover, breakdown time, loading, unloading and orientation are handled.
- Separate any guaranteed compensation from estimates and conditional bonuses. Ask what each condition requires.
02 / Define home time
- Ask what “home daily” or “home weekly” means for this specific position, including shift times and expected days off.
- Confirm the reporting location and your commute. A hiring area is not necessarily the terminal or worksite.
- For regional and OTR work, ask how time out, time home, weekends and getting the truck home are handled.
03 / Know the work
- Ask about freight, touch requirements, equipment, endorsements, routes and night or weekend work.
- Confirm whether the position is solo or team, assigned or slip-seat, and employee or contractor.
- Discuss the requirements against your recent experience before starting an application.
04 / Check the next step
Ask which opening you are being considered for, how the carrier evaluates applications, and what comes next. Get unresolved terms clarified through the authorized recruiting process before committing.
LTDT helps you compare current network options with your background. Availability and carrier hiring decisions apply.
