LTDT / DRIVER GUIDE
You do not need the whole truck stop before your first run.

Check what the carrier provides, what the job requires and what can wait before spending on gear.
New job. New routine. Plenty of chances to spend money before the first paycheck. Start with a short list built around the work you are actually going to do.
Ask what comes with the truck.
Navigation, communication equipment, safety supplies and cargo-control equipment may already be provided or specified. Get the carrier's list before buying your own version. Ask what you are expected to bring to orientation and what can wait.
Buy for your actual work.
Flatbed, dry van, reefer and linehaul do not call for the same shopping list. For cargo-control equipment, verify the required ratings, dimensions and approved setup. Ask the carrier or supplier when you are unsure.
Check the small details.
Does the mount fit? Is the power connection right? Will the headset work with your phone? Does the navigation device support the vehicle profile you need? Read return terms before opening the box.
Count the subscription too.
A useful purchase can come with a recurring bill. Compare the full cost of navigation apps, updates and accessories. Check renewal dates and how to cancel a trial.
Let the first weeks teach you something.
Start with confirmed essentials. Keep a note of what you actually miss during the workday. That gives you a better buying list than a cart full of things you might use.
