LTDT / DRIVER GUIDE
Home daily? Ask what the day actually looks like.
Published October 28, 2026 · LTDT Recruiting
The schedule matters more than the label. Get clear on start times, days off and the trip home.
“Home daily” sounds simple. You finish the run, park the truck and go home. The useful question is how much of your day is left when you get there.
Before you say yes, walk through a normal workday with the recruiter. Start at your front door and finish when you get back to it.
Get the start time.
Is it a set shift, a dispatch window or a call when freight is ready? Ask how often the start moves. A job that starts at 6 p.m. and one that starts somewhere between noon and midnight are different schedules.
Add the commute.
A hiring radius tells you where a carrier may recruit. It does not tell you what the drive to the terminal will feel like after a long shift. Confirm the reporting address, where you park and whether you keep the truck at home.
Define the days off.
Which days? Are they consecutive? Is weekend work expected, rotated or tied to freight? Ask what happens during busy periods. Get the actual arrangement for the opening you are discussing.
Ask about the work between the miles.
Loading, unloading, waiting, swapping trailers and paperwork all belong in the conversation. Ask which tasks are yours and how the compensation handles them.
Then put the pieces together: commute, shift, work duties and time off. The right job has to fit your life as well as your license.
